On the London Underground, the drivers call the recorded voice that announces the stations Sonya, because she gets onya nerves...

sorry File :)

Interesting stuff from the Filemeister as ever, I really really like Depth Charge, the simplicity and resonance of it.

guitou said...

whaooo! this is going to take me a week or two to figure it out, this post should last for ever the way it's starting,
¨she gotsonya nerves....ha ha ha sony has to record this voice...
I have to skype with an extraterrestrial intelligence in few minutes and then get closer to enlightenment.

file said...

ta Zeph and don't worry, that it's onya blog means you can get away with pretty much anything

the one that used to get me was "Woking, this is Woking" repeated for hours while the train was stuck at Woking (where else?) station

m.tougoal, skyping with ET? Does your marketing know no bounds? "ET skype home" Glad it's onya network

guitou said...

onya tout ce qui faut-the skype went well ET is ready for a terrestrial expérience with what's left of our planet-I am sure he will be happy to post directly his personal feelings under a familiar pseud-

ET in tahiti said...

The skyping went well indeed, even if seeing El Guitou in his natural environment is a bit of a shock. Thank Dog the Webcam link was only one way, as I had my morning face on and was only wearing the usual loincloth.

What was it you were saying, Filou, about one-way communication?

file said...

you only have the one loincloth Tah ET? And when it needs a wash ...

is it any surprise they took your webcam away?

Tah ET said...

Wash?

file said...

I guess you just have to point a long, wrinkly and glowing protuberance at it and .*. hey presto.*. bob's your uncle: stain free

mimi said...

it's not rainbows is it, when you're underwater?

Great poetry, and soo good to have you back but don't like underwater stuff.

Really really don't.

Zephirine said...

You don't have to go underwater to read it, Mims:)

guitou said...

yeah really mim's, it's better to be underwater than no water at all-Imagine a world without water:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3930199780455728313
I think we should open an underwater tap room taking place in a virtual lagoon in Tahiti-We'll have probably an overflowing crowd and may be Sonya;;;;;;;;;

file said...

exactly g, and thanks mitigilicious

it really depends on under-which-water I guess; under the north sea, offies bathwater (if any such has ever existed) = no thanks, under the Moorean lagoon, zephirine rose water = well, not so bad eh?

and considering we are all 70% water it might be suggested that we are partially underwater all of the time anyway no?

file said...

...of course some of us are 70 proof water, which may or may not be the same the thing. Ah, more eau de vie (please)

guitou said...

Filou,
actually underwater there is earth isn'it an oxymoron to prétend we are underwater while we are still in?

file said...

not entirely sure I understand that G, however even when we are out of water outside we are still in water inside so when we are in the water outside we are in water inside and outside ergo underwater (in the wettest possible sense).

Is an ice cube in a glass of water underwater?

Zephirine said...

When we say underwater we mean in the water but under the surface, as Guitou rightly says that's not under the water, which would be lying flat on the bottom of the sea maybe? or inside a coral reef...

But when you go underground, you may find water... and if you swam in that, you'd be underwater underground... it's all too much.

file said...

mmm, inside a coral reef :) Oh to be!

it could be argued that our brains, eyes, hearts are underwater... and it only takes a slight reversal of perception to see our skin as not keeping water out but keeping us in our natural habitat; in water, non?

it's far too much, I agree, but this is where them muses take me

mimi said...

Skin is pretty good at keeping water out. But also good at enjoying the sensation of water.

When I had a very private garden, there was nothing I enjoyed more than running around at night in the rain. In the nude.

Don't have a private garden anymore, but being so far north, don't get the temptation either.

offsideintahiti said...

Since I spend a fait bit of time underwater (which is why I don't really need to wash that much), I'll take the poem with me on my next dive, and ask a few octopus friends of mine if they confirm that the third shield in the illustration looks like a sea-turtle shell.

It does to me, but sometimes your eyes play tricks onya.

file said...

But how rich are the gardens of Os!
Of wet and naked nymphs, barefoot in the grass
And discourse on symbolism with octopus
A+!

offside and under said...

Not to mention narcosis.

guitou said...

Allo, Allo Albert Einstein, Allo Archimedes, there is a bunch of people at pseuds disputing your theories, Forget about your wonderful discoveries concerning law of floating bodies and E=mc2, they are contesting
your ideas using this powerful média call the internet.

guitou said...

internet?
what the inertial mass?

munni said...

hello terrestrial and aquiferous pseuds, I've missed this place! a world without water is sadly all too near, they start rationing here next week. oh for a private floating octopus's garden.

As with most filepomes these reward repeat readings and will require further thought. I do like the graphic that reminds me of Turkish evil eyes.

munni said...

I think I meant aqueous, not aquiferous. My brain, it is broken.

al enstein said...

having a broken brain is a normal thing
Muni, after Reading all the above-

mimi said...

All is forgiveable but never forget that there is a film Burn after Reading.

I like to think that it is Burn after Reading - a Berkshire town.
Any one who has been to Reading would agree that it should be burned. As it was, actually by the Vikings.

Should have stayed burned.

munni said...

oh good, mimi, you've added fire to the mix. It was an under-represented element on this thread so far.

file said...

... just hope no-one here has wind! Cheers munni, literally.

Burn after Reading!! lol (well, not to Reading obviously but to Mimish), put's me in mind of Burn after Barking or even Burn before Tooting

Nice to see you here Al Einstein, are you a relative?

Al Einstein said...

nop file, just looking for Sonya your swedish friend Sonia
Ericson. We need 2 phones with Alchimedes the greek wants to play this new game "telephon Tag" he said it's better than burning in hell after reading.

Pinkerbell said...

File - I've read the Depth Charge poem quite a few times now and I still don't think I know what your intention was behind it, but it really does speak to me, especially the "as if intuition were truth" and "as if in hesitation I might find shelter". The overwhelming feeling is despair and regret, but all we can do is hope that our intuitions turn out to be right, surely ... ?

file said...

Hi Pinkerbell, makes me happy that Depth Charge says something to you!

To me it's a reaction to my own attempts at trying to rite half decent potery, so Yes, it is a pome of despair! (although not regret, more like yearning :).

the underwater series is about different states of mind that might be akin to being 'underwater' including the sort of zombie state that comes over me when I'm hashing out verse

Al, f.u.n.

Pinkerbell said...

Oh yes, yearning is a better word for it...

I understand. The words seem to be all their in front of you until you start trying to write them down and then they swim around you just out of reach.

ARGH - I'd avoided Spongebob all of my life up until now... oh my eyes!

Pinkerbell said...

Oh that's a bad one - "their" instead of "there"... oops!

file said...

...or even chasing their own tales?

One of the things I dig in poems/art in general is how some works can mean different things to different people, and that that is ok, like stirring in a pinch of personal perspective to the recipe somehow completes it

sorry about the Spongebob then, it was really aimed at Al E. who seems to think we'll "burn in hell after reading" (or should that be Reading?). In the immortal words of Plankton:

My niece thinks that Plankton is the real star of Spongebob (and I've a feeling that he would agree) but I think that it's about time someone wrote the Tao of Spongebob (like the Tao of Pooh, Te of Piglet thing) or perhaps The Gospel According to Squidward?

file said...

oo-er, the immortal words of Plankton just shuffled off the mortal coil (can anyone teach me how to do the italics thing on this?),here they are:

F. is for Fire that burns down the whole house
U. is for Uranium ... bombs
N. is for No Survivors
[Together]
Down here in the Deep Blue Sea

Zephirine said...

Filo, in the comments you can put < em > at the beginning and < /em > at the end of what you want to italicise. But without the spaces, I just had to put those in otherwise they disappeared. I think you can use < i > and < /i >too, let me try:.

Yes, you can.

Pinkerbell said...

File - are you referring to my uninspired blog name? (Chasing my tales) or is that just a random coincidence? It was such a obvious pun that I was shocked that no-one else had used it already as a blog name!

Thanks Zeph, I thought that's what I'd done but obviously not. It's like some sort of code innit...Yes P, it was a reference and there are many worse puns out there (or even in here)

all kinds of un'erwater, all kinds of deep:

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
...and Spongebob is remarkably mature for his age although Patrick, really, could do better

file said...

although how do you get a line break after the italix? Conjoining Frost and the erstwhile sponge lad is some sort of dank sacrilege which will surely come back to haunt me (by comparison burning in hell seems somehow not so bad)

oh dear oh dear
as one about to...

depart at great windy heights above the charging depths

precarious in an elemntsal tincan
and watching readings burn before they fly

my wooden posture cramped inside econonomy class torture (oh why was i born econbomy class??!!)

I feel the tentacles coming toward me - is this some dread sleep from which I will awake and bob to the surface refreshed? - or

am I to spend 30 hours
at the mercy of jet engines and stray birds

just to catch a glimpse of old briney in her summer gown?

well
yes actually :-) ^_^

Doc, are you coming over here? Excellent!!

offsideintahiti said...

Doc, no stopover in Tahiti for a cocktail?

file said...

Did you get parole Docker, or is it just a conjugal visit?

mimi said...

Me too Doc - are you on your way?

Would you like to have a stopover in Scotland?

Will the Aussies win?

Is it Burn after Reading or Burn after Reading (in Berkshire)?

guitou said...

ladies, gentlemen
Don't you read the guardian? Doc is coming to town!
The government hired an Incorruptible to create a system of national integrity-Bodies are going to fly from Westminster's palace-

DoctorShoot said...

oh yes...
actually Guitoscoop I was planning to try and rort some of my travel expenses for business (the 4yo twins are listed as security advisors) but then it turns out you actually have to earn money to make tax savings worthwhile - silly me...
anyhow I am willing to be electoral secrebunny for any pollie with a stash to share... and can offer an attractive south sea island home as tax writeoff for small consideration etc.etc..

but no tahitiian lullaby stopover for me - only shopping in singapore oh dear - electrophile me is wallet-dead in the water in orchard st!! - another depth charge pls Sonya!!

5 weeks in Edinburgh to follow anyhow - got a flat in town and will send details over hotmail if anyone wants to huddle over a pint in Speir's Tavern or similar... (tooting in reading and burning underwater)... etc...

mimi
with all the airports I shall be inhabiting over the next couple of weeks it will be reading afterburners on a regular basis, then edinbergh after london (which may be chill after feeding or similar)

DoctorShoot said...

offie
any chance you could fire up the outboard and push tahitii a little closer to Norfolk and I might just swim across for a pre trip refresher :-)

offsideintahiti said...

Outboard? Engine? Pah, I'm more the paddler type, as you know. I'll start pusing now and see where that takes us.

offsideintahiti said...

pushing, even.

Nevermind.

Have a great trip, Doc, and don't forget to provide the running commentary (on the trip, not the cricket).

Day 1; oh they have changed the landing in brisbane from midday to 2300 - dont they know we have three small children and customs and all and...
oh they dont care . ok
well the travel insurance might... oh ok. doesn't apply
we will cope :-) - summer will be warm over there and...

file said...

yes, have a great trip DS

It's a shame Dante never got around to Long Haul Flights with kids eh? It's hard to know what's worse; when they're your own or when they're someone elses

Zephirine said...

It's only quite warm here Doc, but they keep promising us a good summer.

DoctorShoot said...

quite warm will do nicely dear Zeph.. anything that doesn't have cool or cold in the title...

last time we came over it was on the tail of the king of all heatwaves and everyone was wilted -then we arrived and it started raining and going cold as we rode from the arrival lounge(drat)...

so we arrive earlier this time hoping to get the heat :-)

when I was little I imagined that the earth had a sort of central heating fire at it's core and that everywhere would be warm all the time... but my sunday school teacher was so horrified that she gave up selling me a cold blue airy heavenand let me drop back into my charged depths under a warm tortise-shell shield of sonar lines...

perhaps as a Piscean I am directly related to that antique charger of the dark and deep; the crocodile, and thus need the sun on my scales for survival...
