Another Photo

You seemed to like the last one, so here's another.... provide a caption, poem, joke, reflect on the evils of the world or just recommend a sculptor - up to you...

1. Huge turnout for deodorant testers convention.

2. Hands up who thinks Liverpool have no chance of winning the Premier League.

3. Addams Family Appreciation Society meets (pictured "Thing section").

4. Protestors gather to highlight the worldwide shortage of quality glove puppets.

5. Good. Now everyone do and handstand.

6. It's all right. Just arrive on time and I'll give you a wave.

7. I told you it was quicksand.

8. Well that's how I bowl my leg-break.

9. Some of you will have to wait - there's only one toilet.

10. And the whole lot grew from just one packet of fingernail clippings?

Zeph, what on earth is going on in this photo anyway?
It is a very weird image.

offsideintahiti said...

Yes, BD, it does reach out to you and it's quite gripping, non?

I'll get my flowered shirt.

Zephirine said...

It is a sculpture, BD, or rather they are sculptures. File will have to tell you, he took the photo, it's somewhere in Thailand.

I thought it was very weird and therefore strangely suitable for OtherStuff:)

Zephirine said...

Many hands make light
work, or rather they would if
they could find the switch

offsideintahiti said...

Zeph,

are you sure it's not actually from inside file's brain?

Zephirine said...

I think that's very possible, Offie.

But in that case, he knows how to photograph his own mind, which is an even more disturbing thought.

guitougoal said...

I don't have a clue but that's a lot of fingers zeph ,could you lend me a hand?

offsideintahiti said...

I guess we'll find out for sure if thousands of rabbits start pouring out of that pit.

guitougoal said...

is it in Asia?...india, thailand may be a muslim celebration worshiping the hand?
je donne ma langue au chat.

Zephirine said...

'lend a hand' Guitou, lol.

Ah, I've found it. Here it is, and the architect has a wonderful name. The hands appear about halfway through this clip.

offsideintahiti said...

Merde, I was in the area and I managed to miss it. I remember having the most vivid dreams at night, when travelling through that region of Thailand. Must be something in the, erm, water.

Zephirine said...

Well, Offie, it seems like you'll be able to go back there any time in the next 90 years and there'll be something new to see...

file said...

it's a strange and wonderful place about an hour away from here, serious research skills Clem, can't believe you found it

Zephirine said...

Helped just a tiny bit by the fact that you labelled your photo 'Chiang Rai Temple':)

guitougoal said...

this is a thailand temple i like to visit once completed.Something to look forward to do if i am retired.
File is this the place where you are getting your back scratched?

Anonymous said...

Jesus I was miles off. I thought they were real people and it was somewhere in the US.

Pseuds has such a global reach.

file said...

yes Chiang Rai Zeph, but when you think there are about a million temples in the area, although this 'estate' is pretty special, my favourite is another temple that's like a weird hall of mirrors, s'posed to sort my ego out, heh!

Guitou, if you retire soon I'll give you a guided tour, no massage here tho, best places for that are Chiang Mai womens prison and a 'sanctuary' for the blind (that's what they call it) near here, the best place for coffee (of course) is Cabbages and Condoms

bd, get a grip :)

Anonymous said...

Zeoh: thanks for the link - fascinating video clip and what a project. 90 years? That's optimism for you.
A small glow emanates. Bit lit the Neasdon temple - though different religion.

Guitou: ici c'est seule la langue du chat.

Anybody in a taproom mood?

*people in the picture: "me! me! me! me! me! me! me! me!"*

Zephirine said...

That's why they're holding the bowls up - they've heard about the legendary tapir casserole...

offsideintahiti said...

Aaah, someone's actually minding the place. Everybody else probably out in brick and mortar establishments right now. Friday night, eh? Hi, Zeph.

Zephirine said...

Oh, sorry Offie, wandered off there for a bit. If you're still there, how about trying this cocktail:

The Sloehand

1.5 shots of Sloe Gin
1 shot of Vodka
2 shots of Grenadine
0.5 shot of Lemon Juice
1.5 shots of Orange Juice

offsideintahiti said...

Sloehand for a slow night.

I had sworn I'd never have gin again after one particular night in Edinburgh nearly 20 years ago. Last thing I remember is the Swiss piano player explaining his real work had something to do with fractals and illustrating it with droplets of some gin and orange-juice cocktail. I woke up with a 16-ton anvil where my brain usually is and a slab of dried plaster in lieu of a tongue.

Still, santé!

Zephirine said...

Gin and orange is a really nasty combination, I've suffered from that myself in the past, or maybe the problem was following it up with champagne...

Cheers Offie, it is a quiet night and I'm not going to be much of a hostess I'm afraid, going off to bed shortly.

Perhaps Marcela'll show up, she sometimes keeps noctural puma kind of hours.

My horoscope for Saturday says "Tempting as it is to abandon the last shred of your self-discipline and indulge yourself in selfish choices, there will be a price to pay." Huh. I think that last shred went some time ago, actually.

Mimi,
that was "catching a fast ball and a curve ball" at the same time, I was already impressed by your gerard de nerval poem but your translation of "donner sa langue au chat" is perfectly french la langue de Moliere.

My contributions recently have been riven by typos (comes of allowing a small fierce cat access to the keyboard).

Guitou: You may have been under a misapprehension in order to be impressed. I expect you think I meant to write about my languoustine du chat, or lignes d'Orsay.

guitougoal said...

as Gore Vidal said"once again Norman Mailer is lost for words"
this guy never used a computer or a typewriter, I guess he was sponsored by Bic.

Zephirine said...

I'm making typos too lately because my new laptop has a keyboard which I can only describe as soggy, and my fingers are used to the old one which was more like a typewriter keyboard and made a satisfying rattly noise... I can understand wanting to do a first draft in longhand, quite a lot of people do, it's like sketching for a painting I guess, but *never* using a typewriter or a computer?? Presumably he had a secretary!

Anonymous said...

And Norman is gone. Forever.

I've searched out the Naked and the Dead to read again.

So many are dropping off the tree these days. I was sad to witness the passing of George Melly, and then most sad when Alan Coren shuffled off this mortal coil.

I just love The Fight by Mailer. He's got a lovely voice too.

And in 20 mins it'll be 11/11 and at 11am we'll do our 2 mins silence. For the first time in years and years I find myself taking Remembrance Sunday very seriously. I used to think it was a pointless exercise, but this year, for whatever reason, it really does matter.

Here's a clip to get you thinking.

Great clip, Mimi. I never had much patience with the endless re-living of WWII, but WWI has always fascinated and saddened me.

This one is even more moving - or I think so anyway, particularly after watching Gallipoli yesterday.

offsideintahiti said...

Thanks for the clips and the wishes, everyone.

Mimi, you live in the wilds of Scotland, don't tell me you feel like you're stuck in an underpass traffic jam. If so, I suggest a tropical holiday.

Good night (or whichever)

happy anniversary to mr and mrs offside, i'll drink some champagne in Paris to that.

Lovely clips from all. I'm slightly disturbed that Small Black Fierce was utterly rivetted by tony's Gladys clip. I think it's the thought of "ripping out the heart of a trembling bird" more than a fascination with semi-naked men that held her attention. That and anything is a distraction other than being used to mop up tears! She's not keen on getting her fur wet.

I was moved to search for something I think we've had more than once before, but I make no apologies, and it seems apt this evening.

oof indeed Munni

have a good day Oxides, shame you're not anywhere romantic or anything

I'm awful with remembering dates so we got married on the day after the musses file's birthday, far more efficient I can forget two at the same time

but yours is a much better idea, by coinciding your meeting with History you'll get loads of reminders in the press and such (especially as it's called Rememberence Day, very canny)

a day for remembering those who fell, yes, but also the day that Peace started (at least for a bit) and that's surely worth celebrating and has a beautiful significance for you two, non?

think we'll have to renew our vows (with some minor alterations) and get married again on Boxing Day (heh!) or April 1

Greetings one and all, and many happy returns to the Tahiti Two.

11/11/1 was the day my daughter was born in a hurry on my sister-in-law's expensive rug, which makes her six today.
Am feeling all aglow from a rather wonderful day on a farm, playing pass the parcel and carrying her exhausted but happy form up to bed. Oh, and the good as new bike went down a treat too. Happy days.

very Happy Birthday to BlueDaddiesGirl

I think jolly happiness to all is well earned, the Tahiti Two, the ones who have forgotten occasions and Bluedad's little one. How nice to hear of everyone's happiness. Really does bring cheer as the nights become dark and cold.
