so I'm the only one who mistook this for a glorious and inspiring communist monument, then?

guitougoal said...

Measuring infinities, some are larger than the others.

Zephirine said...

Munni, you mean "the heroic measurer raises his ruler in salute to the glorious People's Republic"?

Guitou :))

Offie, thanks for that link, I spent about an hour following up Gotlib cartoons when I should have been working.... very funny though.

offsideintahiti said...

Hey, it's friday. Is this the taproom?

offsideintahiti said...

Oops, sorry, not friday yet, just feels that way. Pretty desert taproom at the moment, anyway.

Zephirine said...

A taproom can be anywhere you want it to, Offie:)

Though it's more fun if there's more than one of you.

But for Friday you do have to wait till tomorrow...

offsideintahiti said...

Doesn't it feel like friday though? Or maybe it's just me.

Zephirine said...

We've been having hot summery weather here, so it keeps feeling like Saturday.

Zephirine said...

(Well, hot by our standards)

offsideintahiti said...

You mean slightly above 10°C?

guitougoal said...

Zeph,
"slightly above 10°" it's an insult to our Grothar god of weather and father of our skies- I concur about the hot summery weather-

Zephirine said...

Ooh, yes, slightly above 20° even!! But it's going to rain tomorrow apparently.

Dog above, sitting in a taproom talking about the weather... you can tell File's working nights, he'd never allow anything so respectable.

Here's a nice bit of old music. Best played loud.

Zephirine said...

Are you in gay Paree then Gui?

Anonymous said...

it's hotter in London than Los Angeles today. Ah, climate change.

Unknown said...

it's friday now :)
where's my drink?

Unknown said...

hendrix!!!??? wow.

well, i may be drinking alone but i'm certainly raising my glass to you, zeph.

again.

There you go, Marcela:

Friday Frozen Mudslide:

1 1/2 oz Absolut vodka
1 1/2 oz Bailey's Irish cream
1 1/2 oz Kahlua coffee liqueur
8 ice cubes
1 1/2 oz cream
1 scoop Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream
2 scoops Haagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream

file said...

you're never alone Marcela

do hope that Mudslide isn't only for the gals Offie, anything with Absolut and/or Kahlua is just fine by me...

...but o for the green, green grass of home...

offsideintahiti said...

And it's low-calory!

Of course, it is.

file said...

o, and Zeph...

file said...

did You evah?

Ah well, see you later, swellegant people.

Zeph,
I left Paris for Cannes, long week end and mojitos in Mougins, slow drinkings and long siestas always wearing your pseuds tee-shirt.

Unknown said...

guitou: "I left Paris for Cannes"

talk about being in the right place at the right time :)

offsideintahiti said...

And I bet you're having a croissant right now. Enjoy.

guitougoal said...

it's funny how offie's and marcela's names are popping-up as soon as I mentionned Mougins. you both are probably guessing if I am having diner with the black travelo singer tonight:)

offsideintahiti said...

Oh, so you've kept in touch, then? Cheeky.

guitougoal said...

yes but I understand Ronaldo is competing.

offsideintahiti said...

Bollocks.

guitougoal said...

tout a fait mockumentary.

Zephirine said...

Ah, Guitou, that French champagne, so good for the brain... you're just a jet-setter really, non?

File, great video apart from the sn*ke, yeugh:)

Doc, snffle, Heath, sob. Great song though - and you're the nearest yet, with that song as a caption.

This blog is getting like that old music-hall joke about the boy who only got to wear long trousers when his dad was on night shift. Or is it timeshare? 24 hour taproom people...

Anonymous said...

Can't believe I missed the opening of a Taproom. Oh yes, I was out in the garden soaking up the sun and being well and truly trounced at Monopoly by an eight-year old! I have ludicrously opened the door for a second sound beating tomorrow evening, should this glorious weather stay a bit longer. Mind you if the cumulo-nimbus bring the rain, I'll get bankrupted in my own kitchen.
Love the pic. My caption would have been "Who stole the normal-size spirit level then?"

guitougoal said...

Zeph,
no jet-setter at all, me drifter from town to town, another day another job
Mimi,
better be trounced at a monopoly by an eight years old than trounced at a duopoly by a twenty eight-

Anonymous said...

Not yet noon here but I will have some of Offie's ice cream concoction, philistine that I am I really hate the taste of champagne (and yes, I have tried the good stuff).

I'm told Cannes is absolutely wretched this time of year, Gui, watch out for sleazy hollywood types.

Spilled gasoline all over my fave shoes this morning, I'm very upset.

Zephirine said...

Trounced, there's a good word.

Guitou, kind of like this?

Zephirine said...

Munni, bad luck about the shoes:(

offsideintahiti said...

munni,

at least, it didn't ignite.

Unknown said...

guitou lives in hollywood most of the time, so he has nothing to fear in his home-home town of cannes.

juega de local :))

orsay- your cocktail sounds possitively dangerous: i hate to think what would happen to shoes what had that stuff spilt on them. i'll stick to malt and/or coffee.

iggy's hand covered with ants - now there's an enduring image.

roll on summer nights and the bizarre virtual taprooms!!

(BTW: movie talk alert - i never saw brokeback mountain, recommended??)

DoctorShoot said...

Marcela
I couldn't resist linking the gorgeous and troubled hollywood screen artisan measuring up a place in heaven, head in the clouds and already gorne

with an image expressing hope and despair... :-)

well, the movie had so much potential and there is a lot to enjoy, but for me it just missed the mark by wallowing too much... lining up to document the mighty america approaching the iceberg, but still reinforcing the same roadmap which is under scrutiny no?..

safety in the known, even if it is drowning you...

DoctorShoot said...

btw barkeep
I'll have something that comes in cans on ice
(sounds like torvil?)

Unknown said...

yes. your rather perfectly succinct critique is kinda the sense i got from the trailers, doc. will give it a miss until it's on telly at a time that there's nothing else on.

i don't know if there's a bartender here. you may have to help yourself. or ask the guy in the original photo to reach a can for you too, while he's up there :)

Anonymous said...

I am not yet trounced, though the state we left the game in makes it highly likely that I will be trounced and bankrupted by a very junior player of the game.
Barkeeper: surely there to serve a g and t or some other drink?

Anonymous said...

Evening all,

Something to keep me awake please!
Too much work too little time...

Also caption: "The Emperer's new palace"

But Mimi surely you have your £500 slid hidden under the board to lull your opponent into a false sense of security...

Zephirine said...

Pastagobbler, good caption!!

The OtherStuff taproom has, of course, a virtual barman, his name is Felix, he seldom speaks but mixes a mean cocktail. Unlike Ingrid at the other place, though, he doesn't offer any extra services.

Felix, a Gimlet if you please and a couple of gardenias on the side.

Anonymous said...

Aah, some other folks are awake. I'm just dreaming, wishing you were here in a youtube way, remembering ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZSWAkJ3h8E

guitougoal said...

Zeph,
thanks,I love the wandering star, and Lee Marvin-do you remember the dirty dozen, few people in the industry can remember the twelve names in fact they were fifteen with the officers.
Muni,
don't (be upset), if I recall Marcela's has an improved technic about fAcking shoes shoping-Meanwhile you may borrow mimi's fuffy pink slepers.

guitougoal said...

sleepers, of course, I am sleepy myself.

guitougoal said...

fluffy sleepers- two strikes and I am out.

Anonymous said...

Guitou: I may have pink pyjamas but not fluffy pink slippers! All my slippers are faux leopard fur. As behoves a woman of my distinction!

Zephirine said...

Guitou, I worked with a man who was a stand-in on The Dirty Dozen, he had many stories about it, including Lee Marvin's poker school, Trini Lopez being written out of the picture because his agent started asking for extra money, etc etc.

guitougoal said...

Mimi,
I never had the privilege to look at your sleepers but I reckon your distinction is first class- I'll have one more Roby Burns to forget my embarrassment-
Zeph,
Yes this movie is particularly rich in anecdotes, so many stars under the same umbrella, I had a hard time myself to come up with 6 names out of the 14 or 15 but Trini Lopez was mentioned because I remembered him as a singer. I think Manckievitz directed the picture.

Anonymous said...

mimi/gui, I actually do have fluffy faux leopard slippers. They were, inexplicably, a birthday gift from my granny several years ago. I shall have to see if I can find them.

marcela, re. Brokeback Mountain, doc's review is spot on, but I do think it's worth seeing - if nothing else, the fact that it was perceived as boundary-breaking and was successful as a mainstream commercial film makes it significant as a sociocultural document (of early 21st century north american popular culture). And the performances are good.

and re. sleazy hollywood types, really I'm just jealous because I know a few of them who are currently in Cannes and actually turned down premiere tickets for things I really, really want to see.

gobbler, I love your caption.

(You fight tooth and bleedin' nail throughout the season, chipping away and slogging your guts out till you finally carve out a result and convince the missus of the blindingly obvious benefits of plasma technology, all for Canal bleedin' +, after swamping us with live coverage throughout the year and trumpeting multiplex, down-to-the-wire excitement, to start broadcasting an hour after the bleedin' matches kick off!!)

Anonymous said...

munni: so glad I'm not the only one with faux leopard slippers. I also have a faux wolf (lined with crimson silk)wrap that I snuggle into when doing Pseuds' things in the winter.

Oh and I did lose heavily today despite at one time owning all stations, both utilities and having hotels on all the cheap properties. I was undone by spending an inordinate amount of time in jail and landing three times on my young opponent's Mayfair property! A revenge match beckons.

your adjustment caption trumps...

and of course for decent reception, it all depends upon who one follows;

the league creator and one time manager of champion league leaders sits high above antenna directing traffic... the chosen team colours gold and white set in blue...

a team mercileesly prepared to relegate any perpetrators of misdemeanours to lower grade, (though always prepared to offer redemption if certain tests can be passed)...

followers of traditional adversaries (red team and other leagues / codes) stand little chance of receiving the reception or match delivery they want and only get what they deserve...

those of us who follow the underdogs will for ever be adjusting and wondering why the service and the results just aren't up to scratch...

drive a person to drink...

offsideintahiti said...

Sure I can name the Dirty Dozen: Zeph, Mimi, Marcela, Munni, PastaGobbler, Guitou, File, the Doc, HenryMoon, et moi, et moi, et moi.

They're all still hanging around the crime scene.

Ah, the Third Man...

Hmm, I see the night shift have been in, we seem to be running out of mojito ingredients, I must send Felix out for fresh supplies.

Anonymous said...

So thanks for the 3DogNight clip. I, of course, would rename the band 3CatNight! Knowing how they named the band.

Zeph: thanks for the Harry Lime clip - whoosh, so many memories. From the undeniable fact that my first love bore a strange resemblance to Orson Welles, specially the smile and the crinkle round the eyes, to the memory of my dad taking me to see The Third Man and him getting a ticket from Thames Valley's finest for parking with a defective tyre.

And I've just had another thought about the Caption:

"Hey you up there ... this is Philip [Pullman]. How big is your kingdom? Bet Richard's [Dawkins] and mine is bigger than yours."
