Spiders -- by Mimitig

.
I have a friend who loves cleaning
She wants to clean my house.

My home is not up to snuff
I have dust and cobwebs.

But when there is an infestation of flies
I know there won’t be here
Not in my house.

I have left the webs
Spiders do their work.

I try to justify my spiders
To my friend.
I tell her how they keep my house clean.

I tell the old story.

I was eight years old
I wore my sister’s hand-me-down oranges and lemon frock
A spider ran up, straight up
From hem to neck.

I was not scared.

Luck or fate -
I live in a land without poison from the eight legs.

I love my spiders.
They help me keep a good house.

I love my spiders.
They spin and weave and remind me of
The spinning Jenny.

I love my spiders
I will never hurt them.

I love my spiders
My dad made lavvy paper ladders for them
So they could crawl with their little
Eight legs
Out of the bath tub to safety.

We never had to bomb them
With a present from Penarth.

I love my spiders
As I lie in bed
And see a spider spinning away above my head.
I think, thank you, keep the flies away.

I love spiders.

A fear of spiders is as irrational as a fear of bats.

I love bats too.

mimi,
bats can kill hundred of moskitoes an hour but they can fly into your hair and that scares me.Not to mention the thought of Dracula standing in the corner.

I thought bats had built-in radar which enables them to miss your head? Or does it break down sometimes?

I'm with Zeph on this one, though I don't think I'd mind if a bat did fly into my hair. Not one of those huge fruit bats, obviously, as that would hurt, but the little ones - not a problem!

guitou, you mean like this?

mimi, spiders and spiderwebs in the house are supposed to be good luck anyway - they're literally spinning luck in your home. I will never kill one myself, although I sometimes set the cat on them.

I think only some species of bats use echolocation, but I might be wrong on that. In any case, even if a bat bumped into you, I think it would have to make a real effort to get tangled up in your hair, and I don't think that any right-minded bat would do that.

I am with you 100%. No sane bat would get tangled.

Thanks for the clip which is the true scary - how about this that is not at all scary, except for Gary's laugh.

Whhoops! that was me not Munni - agreeing with munni.

Of course they can hit your head when they fly through the air at speed. This is especially dangerous in the case of a baseball bat.

Nice one, Offie :)

Right, come to think of it I don't believe a real bat could fly into my hair-I am glad munni and mimi agreed , no sane bat could get tangled into my hair....now could we move on a different subject please.....:-(

It couldn't get tangled but it could probably land.

No sane bat could get tangled. Mad bats, now, that's an entirely different matter.

Munni
that's a nose for a tune to be played on if ever I saw one...

has nobody noticed that mimi has "a friend who loves cleaning
She wants to clean my house"

my goodness... please send your friend to little bodgey island here for holiday if you dont need her...

we have colony spiders that band together and build giant golden webs that can trap a cat... we have night spiders that weave webs over doorways at night and you walk into their wet hairy little bodies and they wriggle off your face while you are snatching at the net in which entrapment spells worst nightmare... we have St Andrews cross spiders all over the walls making their lost cries for re-instatement of the Stuarts to the throne...

you must all promise me that you will NOT watch:

Ah, Doc, the poor deluded St Andrews spiders... we have the night ones, but outside, in gardens; at a certain time of year (can't remember when? October?) you go out in the morning and find your whole garden draped with webs and the front door knocker and letter box decorated.

I don't enjoy killing any kind of creatures (OK, oysters are alive, but it's not the killing I enjoy, it's the taste) and so I generally leave spiders alone (and hope for reciprocation), but regarding spiders in the house...

THERE IS A SIZE LIMIT!

yep, don't mind house spiders either, nice poem Mimis

always thought the webs were like Dreamcatchers and helped to keep our psyche in the home ... thus defending us from the wandering spirits which may think it's unoccupied and move in
