somewhere on a pacific beach it's offside
paradise. Can you surf a wave that big?

last night I had a dream that there was a second-tier European tournament, sort of like an international version of the Uefa cup, and England were playing Denmark in the semi-finals. I don't know who won, I woke up before it ended.

Not completely off-topic, it's about parallel universes.

El Nino...It is the Teahupoo wave in Tahiti Iti - It can be surf, I personnaly prefer taking risks surfing my hamock with a cocktail in hand

Munni... in parallel universes, Elvis still alive and as the captain of denmark team win the european tournament

Anonymous said...

thanks anonymous I was already under the impression that surfing the web it's already an adventure..
Munni, I had the same dream it was Capello's England 6 Denmark O-
Domenech was coaching Denmark- after the game he called his mama because nobody else would talk to him, including Estelle.

Nino, I think you are mocking me.

This is, of course, a polynesian haiku. Another variation of the form.

And it does contain the word Summer:)

zeph,
polynesian haiku,;
endless summer
a long board surfing
for tropical sunset
Non?
munni,
You should believe el nino if you have faith in parallel universes-I had the same dream, me too, except I woke up at half-time. I was still at the same bar I was when I did fall asleep...

love the pic paddleman, how we all move at the sub-atomic level, most of the time, and how it all ends up as foam on the shore

Anonymous said...

Glad you love it File...
Quantic physic is so important for me that I am in the process of creating a new concept : "the quantic rock" (already named "Quantrock" by Offie): the quantic mechanic concepts applied to rock & roll
If you have some ideas...or not...

Anonymous Paddleman.

Anonymous said...

anonymous,
quantic rock? ah non, quantic is a religious song-I Love gregorian quantics.

Anonymous said...

Quanticotico, I think you are mocking me.

We are talking about serious stuff here....

offsideintahiti said...

Quantics anonymous? Where do I sign up?

file said...

bearing in mind that a quantic is 'a homogeneous polynomial having two or more variables.' it Does sort of suggest the polyphonics of Gregorian chant, alternatively phonic reverberations of mantra's such as Om Mani Pad Me Hung are said to harmonize with the universal at some fundamental level...

I think you're going to have to start this with Your definition of quantic rock 'n roll P'man...

Anonymous said...

"Quantrock" ... I think somehow there is something confused and diverse and you're really celebrating David Quantick. Who is a nice person and does do kind critiques most of the time.
But being a music critic, I'm sure somewhere he has created the "Quantrock" of which you talk here.

Not that I care one way or the other. I'm away to search the latest from Edwyn Collins.

(Paddleman, a technical note - you don't have to be anonymous unless you want to: you can use the option name/URL and put your name and leave the URL blank)

offsideintahiti said...

That's just Paddleman quantic nature, he can be both Anonymous and Paddleman.

Or Paddlymousse if he ever gets caught in that wave.

Waves crash on the shore
Do they break, vanish or fade?
Where does the foam go?

There's been a lot of talk of being proud to be English recently with Andy Murray's tennis and I just think of this:

I however think the Flower of the English is our fair Zepherine.

But that's just me.

File, I certainly do not claim to be able to create a new universal way to communicate with the cosmos - just trying to introduce discontinuity, duality, indetermination concepts into rock & roll mathematically but in a subtle way...

Anonyman paddlemouss

Zeph (thanks for the tip but name/url java doesn't work...)

Science is good for communicating:

file said...

P, the attempt may not be New but approaching it with an understanding of quantum dynamics sounds fresh and exciting to me

perhaps 'discontinuity, duality, indetermination concepts' have been explored by Schoenberg, Glass and others but not in a r'n'r environment

apparently

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v8Vb4Im4YI

can be defined mathematically (if in the bio-mechanical model) but to my mind this may have more of the elements of what you are referring to...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICwTFT6js5s

by the extremely inventive penguins (sounds a lot like the waves and bubbles of quantum foam to me). I could be wrong (and it's not at all rock and roll), are there any examples you know of?

is there a way to subvert 12 bar blues so that it incorporates your ideas while keeping the traditional foundations?

m is file, keep mixing email accs.!

I'm having a dilemma here.
Lubetkin v Winehouse.

Perhaps I should leave it to you lot.

And then I will know about my life. Should I chase love, or forget?

Had "12 bar blues" once
I drank a pint in each bar

mimi, mimi, I'm not sure what you're talking about, but always chase love.

At this stage of our very quantumly discussion, I should probably make clear that, among his many talents, Paddleman is a drummer.

And, as we all know, drummers are a bit...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cEPydnb0Ns

and even...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM6o1Hv7ec0&NR=1

offsideintahiti said...

And that's when they're not literally self-combusting...

many thanks Munni, I'd totally forgotten this brilliance, this inspiration, not having seen it for 20 years or so, it might explain a lot (if only I could remember what!! :~))

mimi, toujours l'amour but self-preservation is also key

Offish, Animal was a hero of mine before I even knew what hero's where, much enjoyed and thanks for digging him up, an insight into the quantum enigma that is the Paddleman!

Anonymous said...

So difficult to follow each one of you - not used to that...

Quantic rock could be a visual / mathematical / conceptual approach and I do not know exactly what it will look like (visual / conceptual / mathematical approach of rock music...???) - I just had this amazing idea last week and I need to think deeply about it...
Sorry but I will apply it on R& R first - I have too much respect for the blues

Thank you Mimi to talk about love, I will certainly add infinite quantum of love into this concept.....

File, nice to see the very wonderful Penguin Cafe Orchestra on here.

Paddleman, you'll get used to us all talking across each other - there aren't very many of us visiting here anyway!

file said...

er...just been reminded what M was all about and thought I'd distance myself from the earlier comment! It's Lang's Vision that continues to be inspirational and Not the character Lorre played.

Zeph, the penguins are great aren't they? Tho perhaps not at their most tuneful in the above (mathematical) clips, here's a bit more

penguin cafe orchestra very nice File-
could penguins be considered as a Quanta
because they are indivisible?

Zephirine said...

This is my favourite Penguin Cafe tune, here with a cast of thousands of strangely appropriate dancers.

Having privileged access to the insides of Paddleman's brain (yes, it's scary and I have to ply him with drinks first), I'd like to underline, for those who may have missed it, his craftily worded equation that something, in quantic terms, can be both a wave (as in Hertzian) and a particle (matter and non-matter (is that too many parenthesis? does it matter?)).

Now, how it will apply to Rock'n'Roll is still a bit of a mistery. Music is definitely a sound wave, so do we have to work towards making it solid?

When he left the offside hut last night, Paddleman looked pensive. He was hummin'n'drummin' to himself.

If I don't get vaporised by an amp-to-11 wall of sound, I'll keep you posted about the results...

Anonymous said...

Thanks Offie for these explanations ! )
butI am still (pensive...)
next time you will prepare me Mojitos it will surely help me to focus on this quantic (thing I) need to think about diluting) my brain into the cosmos

PS : I have added some parenthesis here and there testing its aesthetic effect - not sure about the result

file said...

waves and particles (or bubbles) yes, hence the description of quantum foam to describe sub-atomic reality, that's why I included the Penguins Telephone (wave sound) and Rubber Bands (bubbles popping sound!!) as a suggestion as to what Quantrock might sound like...(?)

guess you're (both) using the term 'quantic' to describe the duality of dynamics of quantum defined matter, recalls the curve and spots of the yin/yang symbol too

applying it to rock 'n roll; have you already described r'n r mathematically? That might serve as a starting point for diversion...

as to the aesthetics (of) parentheses; isn't it an emotional thing ))?~

Anonymous said...

Offy - thanks for that. Appreciate the subtext and I'll try not to bring so much Mimi to all comments. Sorry all for a bit of mimi-ism recently.

Just wondered, reading the last few comments if Aero Bubbles count as Quantum chocolate. Foamy choc in particles, and if the answer were to be yes, then eating chocolate could become a scientific experiment and therefore a duty.

File,i wilL not gO tOo deeply into the matHematical aspect of rocK & Roll - oviOusly, MUsic is maTh and quanTic physics can bE described by equations and that Will be a lInK but r&r is above all energY, pure energy and I will try to enhance specific quantic aspects of that enRgY
- disconTinuitY
- duality (I didn't notice the ying yaNg wave dot thing - thanks for thAT)
- uncErtaintY H
- ComplEmentarity
- Non-separability
and you must Know that I am dRiven by the fun aspects of such project
(we hAve time to kill in our smAll islands................)

pS : capital letters is just a variation of parenthesis aesthetic/emotional trial - do not lOOk for any secret message, it gives exactly "LOOH KROMU TE WIKY RYTTI NATTEY EHE KRAA OO" even if it furiously look like a polynesian aka

...so confused...

Mimi, there's no subtext, I just thought it was dead funny.

Glad Offie - thought you were nudging me back to being sensible and not being obsessed by, well you know.

Any way, here's a thing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikki-Tikki-Tavi

That's a thing cos of the last post made me think Rikki ...

I'd like a mongoose at home.

Zephirine said...

Vicious little brutes, aren't they? Stick to pussycats Mimi:)

offsideintahiti said...

Mongoose? Yeah, those cobras are a real nuisance in Scotland, aren't they?

Don't you turn sensible on us, mimi, we'd have to ban you. You're better off here in the Quantum Asylum with the other lunatics.

Anonymous said...

Can I have a quantum pet mongoose, or a flock maybe of mongeese?

Anonymous said...

mimi, here is a sweet babby mongoose for you:

and here is a honey badger that looks a lot like my cat:
